Learning & Serving with the Community of
Meeting Ground
Based in Elkton, Maryland
“Our mission is to help meet basic human needs and to address the
root problems that perpetuate the cycle of poverty and
homelessness. We bring together homeless and non-homeless
persons in a context of shared life and work by providing
hospitality, shelter, food and education… At Meeting Ground, in
humility, ‘we all sit at the same table’ in ministry one to another,
each seeking to discover our own identity.
Rooted in Christian values and inspired by various religious
traditions, Meeting Ground grew from the concept of "shelter" to
the reality of "home" for the homeless and those whose lives they
encountered at the place of hospitality: volunteers, college &
seminary students, mission-trippers, clergy, formerly homeless
persons, and others from all walks of life.”
What will we be doing?
The work at Meeting Ground could include: building repairs
and maintenance, sorting donated clothing, maintaining the
nature trail and campfire site, working in the vegetable
garden, and planning games and activities for the children in
residence. Final work requests will be made by Meeting
Ground as they evaluate the group's skill assessments.
